Art & Dominica Herrera, Yemi & Ayokunle Ogunfeitimi are parents of children with Autism.
Art and his wife Dominica teamed up with Yemi and her husband Ayokunle to create Autism Paciente. They started with art classes “Painting Art with Art”. Where children with Autism could attend and not have to worry about paying for anything. It would be a completely free class. We reached out to the community and got paints and canvases donated. All the children had to do was bring themselves and a smile. Art & Dominica used their fine art skills to teach the children Expression with Acrylic as they themselves paint using emotion. While Yemi and Ayokunle provided their medical office and medical skills to create and host this environment dedicated to Autism.
Our classes became in demand immediately and parents began to ask for more services from our non-profit. We looked within ourselves to see what more we could provide to the community. We decided that in addition to our art classes we would begin to prepare to teach the step-by-step process of our IT/Computer skills, photography, filmmaking, modeling, digital graphic design, daily life skills (cooking, cleaning, laundry, financial, and safety), social gatherings to help encourage social skills in a caring environment and other confidence building techniques we could foster.
With our expanded goals for the community, one thing has not changed about our Non-Profit. We operate completely free to those who seek our services. Which is why your funding is truly the key for us to be able to continue our dream of helping those who come to us. We need electronics such as iPads, and Desktop PC’s to be able to teach digitally. We need kitchen appliances to achieve our goals of teaching cooking, washing laundry and clothes folding. We need desks and chairs to facilitate the proper learning environment. We need your support.
